History

In 1857, Mr. Lovchand Amarchand then 22, ventured out to Sudan in North Africa to explore business / trade potential.

It was the time when India’s share in the international trade constituted a modest 2%. However there was a strong demand , across the globe for , INDIAN traditional and agricultural products , realizing this potential and demand for Indian goods Mr. Lovchand Amarchand set up his own import firm in North Africa. He chose the inland port of Suakin in Sudan to be his base for all the trade activities in Africa. His business subsequently flourished, this in return, yielded him rich and invaluable rewards of exposure and experience.

The company's name ‘LOVSON’ was derived from his first name “ LOVCHAND “ , as locally he was affectionately and popularly known as “BABA LOVSON”.

His focus and commitment enabled him to develop and establish a reputation not only in the African continent, but across the globe.

He left a legacy of hard-work, determination and dedication on the strong and responsible shoulders of his grandson Mr. Bharat G. Shah who ventured out from his birth place Mangrol- Gujrat to Sudan at a tender age of 16. He gained knowledge and experience working with his grandfather. They worked closely together to generate best of resources and opportunities for the company.

Their hard work coupled with a clear vision lay a foundation of principles and a healthy work culture .

He added new dimensions to the existing trade between his Sudanese and Indian offices by importing goods from the Far East, namely Japan.

With the fast changing and volatile situation in Africa, Mr. Bharat Shah returned back to India. He migrated to Mumbai in 1968 with his family, it was a time when India was finding its feet after independence, and was undergoing an industrial revolution.

LOVSON started by exporting the newly developed “slow speed” engines, which were a replica of “Lister” – England. An assembly line was set up in Rajkot, Gujarat – INDIA to manufacture these engines. The engines were initially exported to many African and some South East Asian nations. With this export venture in 1968 ‘LOVSON’ came into existence in INDIA .

In no time, the office that was exporting just one product, transformed into a multi-product company WITH A GLOBAL CLIENTELE.

Today , LOVSON group caters to multiple segments of business and industry. The group has evolved to manufacture and supply a wide range of engineering product from 3 wheelers to TRACTORS .
